Becca's Book Review: Issue I

I just finished reading Steve Harvey's book, Act like A Lady, Think Like A Man. I would have to give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. I think it is a very correct, humorous book that every woman should read.

Let me tell you a few reasons why:

First off, this book is very blunt and to the point, it doesn't sugar coat things because well lets just face it, life isn't sugar coated...especially when it comes to relationships.

The book starts out by explaining that, "men are driven by three things in life: who they are, what they do, and how much they make." Basically this means that a man can not, and will not be able to focus on a committed relationship with you if any of these three things are lacking or not where he wants them to be.

Basically, when you start dating a man, according to Steve Harvey, you need to be straight-up about your expectations and what you want out of the relationship. The man will then decide if you are one to "throw back" or "keep." Hmm...interesting. Apparently dating is relatable to fishing...

One of my favorite lines in the book comes in the chapter "How to Get the Ring." He compares women to a monopoly board...
"Don't be the Baltic Avenue on the Monopoly board game--the one that anyone can just roll the dice, land on, and pay a couple of dollars to chill on without any obligations or worries. You've got to go to Broadway on the game board; make your man round the corner and land on that high end property--recognize that you're prime real estate that's for purchase only."

...Isn't that blue property on Monopoly called Boardwalk? Hmm...that is besides the point I suppose.

I also highly enjoy the quote, "After all, boys shack. Men build homes." He says that you don't want to be the rental property that guys will live in, pay bills in, raise families in, then when an upgrade comes will not renew the lease and move on... You want to be the purchased home that gets taken care of and will be around for the long haul.

These seem like pretty valid analogies to me. I mean they are a little simplistic, but seriously...men are simplistic.

Anyways, I recommend reading this book. It will make you laugh, give you some insight into the male mind, answer questions that you have always wanted to ask, and give you scenarios that I'm sure every woman can relate to. It is only 232 pages and is a fast read, also.

So now I am on to a new book...I'm not sure which one yet, but I will let you know my opinion as soon as I finish said book. :-)

I'll be reading textbooks soon, so it might be awhile lol.
